Hi! I have some catching up to do! My sister and I have been on quite a few trips since my last blog post but I'll start with our most recent fall adventures :)
Growing up in California we had never really experience fall, but then last year we went to Portland in October and OH MY GOSH the fall foliage was amazing. I always thought of fall as time when all the leaves turned brown and died. But no!! Fall is such a beautiful, magical time of the year. As much as I love summer (I'm all about tans, shorts, and warm weather) I think fall may be my favorite time of the year.
Since we had caught only the tail end of fall last year we decided to start chasing the foliage early this year. We started our first trip the first week of October and headed out to Aspen where we met up with Caitlin (@cmcoving) and her mom (@carcar62) for a girls trip. They are both the sweetest ever and we had so much fun with them!
We thought we were going to miss the peak foliage in Aspen but we caught some great color in some areas and other others were already past peak (I know wayyyy too much info about fall foliage after doing so much research for every trip lol).
We flew into Denver since we fly with Southwest (we have a Southwest Companion Pass--more info on that soon!) but be warned, it's like a 4.5hr drive to Aspen and it's a rocky drive! Flights directly Aspen are a bit more expensive but if you don't feel comfortable driving through the mountains (or driving that long), it's definitely best to fly into the Aspen airport since it's only ~15 minutes from town. It is quite a beautiful drive though, so if you are up for the trek then go for it!
We stayed at a few different hotels since they were each sold out on different dates, and my favorite hotel was Hotel Jerome. We just had such a wonderful experience there and enjoyed everything from the food to the decor. It is a luxury hotel so it can run a few hundred dollars more expensive so for a slightly more budget-friendly(it is Aspen after all) option I suggest the Limelight hotel. The rooms so sooo spacious and they had a pretty impressive complimentary break every morning. All the hotels are in pretty close proximity to the shops so you shouldn't really need to drive around town. You will want a car to explore beyond downtown however.
This Free People teddy peacoat, sweater and Land's End jacket were my favorite pieces I packed for the trip. I actually bought the teddy peacoat when we shopping downtown, and as soon as I put it on I knew I had to get it. It's like wearing the comfiest blanket/robe, but it's stylish!haha. And for less than $139 I'd say it's a steal (especially considering that's how much most blouses or sweaters cost at Free People). The weather was pretty sporadic so it worked out for the best to have lots of layers and have a water-proof jacket (I bring one with me on almost every trip). Land's Ends jackets are my favorite, but the style I'm wearing is last season so unfortunately they are almost all sold out of all colors :( They run really large so definitely size down. I wear an Petite XS and it's still very roomy. If there are any colors left, I really love the Burgundy one I linked to (I bought that one as well).
We ended our trip with a visit to Maroon Bells, and it was quite a sight to see!
